Dear Nursing Student, November 30, 2011
On behalf of the faculty, I would like to welcome you to the Lawrence Memorial Regis College Nursing program. Today you begin your preparation for the nursing program by attending the uniform fitting and collecting information regarding textbooks and supplies needed for nursing courses.Information regarding purchasing required textbooks can be found on this LMRC website.
You can click here BUY BOOKS.
Click on"Find your TEXT BOOKS here".
In the Textbooks window, click on Fall 2011-2012

Click
under campus/terms: Nursing. Then click on go.
Click:
“view” beside your nursing course number (NU 101, NU102, NU 201 or NU
202) This
will bring you to a complete listing of all required and recommended textbooks
for that nursing course with their discounted cost. Note that many of the textbooks required in
NU 101 will also be used in subsequent nursing courses.
Technology and information science has become integral to safe and quality nursing care. In order to prepare you to practice at this level in the clinical setting basic computer skills are necessary. It is expected that upon entering the program you have the ability to use Microsoft Word to create and manage documents, send email with and without attachments, search a database and use DVDs or CDs on the computer. Links to tutorials on Microsoft office and notification of basic courses are posted on the LMRC website (http://lmemorial.regiscollege.edu). You may be aware that many nurses are using mobile devices at the bedside. By the time you graduate this will be a common practice. To ensure that graduates are fully prepared for the practice environment all students will be required to purchase a mobile device (PDA, iphone, itouch, Android device / SmartPhone) and will need to purchase and download the required reference software. This handheld device can easily be brought to classes and to the clinical area providing instant access to the most current patient related reference material. We have selected a vendor for the software, Skyscape, and negotiated a generous discount for our students. Whether using your currently owned mobile device or purchasing a new device, the mobile device hardware must be compatible with Skyscape. Compatible devices are listed on the Skyscape website. Students will be required to maintain the device so that it is fully functional while they are enrolled in the Nursing Program as it is a required part of each clinical experience. Instructions and links to purchase the reference materials can be found on the LMRC website. Please note that you must order the required texts from the LMRC website to get the group discount. It is important that you purchase texts and download the software to your device prior to attending the new student orientation. In the first nursing course pharmacology and computation of drugs is presented. The calculation of drugs is based on basic mathematics, algebra skills and systems of measurement. To ensure all students are prepared in the basic mathematical skills, a review packet will be given to you at uniform fitting. The tests in the handouts are similar to the basic mathematical competency test you will be given the first week of class. This one hour test assesses your ability to perform basic math needed for medication administration. A grade of 100% is required on this competency test; completion of the sample tests is the best way to prepare. Any student not attaining 100% will be required to take a six hours of math review. Finally students in
Massachusetts Centralized Clinical Placement Online Orientation. This consists of three modules to read and complete the posttests (100% achievement). Please bring your certificate of achievement of the 3 modules to class during orientation for verification of completion. There are facility specific components of this program that you nursing course faculty will assign at a later date. Link to this website can be found on the LMRC website (http://lmemorial.regiscollege.edu). The above listed equipment and computer skills are necessary for success in all nursing courses. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Lawrence Memorial/Regis College Nursing Program.
